Kevin’s Blog

Hello Everyone,
Recently a couple of requests have popped up. First, a clinic for changing flats has been requested. Second is a basic maintenance course. Both requests are being looked into and we hope to have something scheduled soon.
This past weekend , eight Tri Club members attended Tri Mania in Boston. It was a rather good show with lots of product, clothing and promoters to talk to. A couple things I was a little disappointed in was the lack of accessories for the bike. I was looking for a hydration system to replace the one I have now and didn’t see anything there. Also missing was expo day deals. The prices on items I looked at were regular price. I talked in length with Zipp wheels and asked a price for a set of 808s. He told me $2800.00. I asked for the today price and the price was $2800.00. The Garmin 910XT I have seen cheaper online as well. I’ve been to other expos and they have given discounts for that day. Not the case here.
In the morning we attended Nancy Clark’s seminar on nutrition. Very informative. She covered a great deal of information within a short time. It would have been nice if she had been allotted more time since she is such a wealth of information. She was available at her booth all day and was very pleasant to talk with one on one.
In the afternoon several of us participated in a Total Immersion Swim Clinic lead by Terry Laughlin himself. It was a very interesting view on swimming. He had us swimming to a cadence that not only had you swimming at a relaxed pace, gliding more and reducing strokes while staying within a certain time frame. All in all we had a good day. With that being said, I wish you all the best and I’ll have another update coming soon.

Kevin’s Blog March 2014

Hello tri team members,
This is the first of what we hope will be many updates to come in the future. So how about this winter? I think it has lasted long enough and it’s time to be getting outside now we have longer days.
Regardless of the weather, members of the team have been busy trying to get rid of that excess holiday baggage. Swim lessons with Coach Janet and Denny have been going on with a steady following at the Southbridge Y on Saturday mornings between 7 and 8. Some have been following this up with the QVV single speed ride starting at the DMV parking lot.
Many of the events for 2014 are now posted on several sites. Firm Racing has a good selection ranging from Duals to half ironman’s to indoor tri’s. Star Hill in Tolland also has an indoor series being offered. Lance Bouchard can be contacted for more info. The Hartford Marathon Foundation and Run Rhody out of R.I. also have running events to participate in.
As the weather improves check the calendar to see scheduled practices. If you have any ideas or would like to put on a training let us know. Likewise with events, if you are doing a certain event we can post it so we know who is going. Perhaps a team gathering after the event with snacks could be done to celebrate taking all the medals back home to the Quiet Corner. Some of us will be traveling to Lake Cayuga to participate in their sprint event in Ithaca, NY in August (I just want to go to see the waterfall they show in the magazine). Registration is still open if you’re interested.
How about that Kris Sortwell. He completed his first marathon a few weeks ago. The first big event for our team. Hopefully, many more to follow. Next week March 29, is the Tri Mania expo in Boston. Should be an exciting day seeing all the new toys out there to put on the wish list. There is a group going from the team with some attending different seminars.
Well that’s it for now. As I mentioned at the beginning this is the first update. If you have any thoughts on what you might like to see let us know. There is a ton of info out there so we could probably get you pointed in the right direction. Take care and keep your fingers crossed for 70 degree weather.
